Chlamydia

Chlamydia is caused by the bacterium Chlamydia trachomatis. It is a common STI that affects both males and females and typically does not present with symptoms. According to the CDC the prevalence of chlamydia is high because of this, and people do not know to seek treatment. If left untreated, chlamydia can result in serious health complications and is easily spread to partners, so it’s important to take action.

Gardnerella (Bacterial Vaginosis)

Gardnerella is a bacterial infection that may lead to symptoms such as unusual vaginal discharge and odor. This is called bacterial vaginosis (BV) and may increase your risk of getting other types of STIs including HIV, Chlamydia and Gonorrhea.

Gonorrhea

Gonorrhea is caused by the bacterium Neisseria gonorrhoeae. It is a common STI that can be treated. Symptoms are typically in the genitals, rectum, and throat. It is especially common among young adults. According to the CDC, many people experience no symptoms so early detection is essential.

HIV (1&2)

HIV or Human Immunodeficiency Virus is a blood-borne virus that is spread through the exposure of bodily fluids, like vaginal or anal sex and exposure to blood. HIV attacks and impairs immune cells, weakening the immune system and can develop into AIDS in the later stages.

Mycoplasma

Most people who have mycoplasma have no symptoms. If symptoms occur, they can include, abnormal vaginal or penile discharge, discomfort during sex or discomfort when urinating.

Syphilis

Syphilis is caused by the bacterium Treponema pallidum. It is an STI that affects both males and females and is contracted through vaginal, anal or oral sex. When left untreated, syphilis can severely damage the heart, brain, or other organs, and can be life-threatening. Syphilis can also be passed from mothers to unborn children. Syphilis starts as a painless sore, typically on the genitals, rectum, or mouth. Other symptoms may include a rash, bump(s) or ulcers.

Trichomoniasis

Trichomoniasis is the most common STI and is caused by a parasite called Trichomonas vaginalis. Less than a third of people with Trichomoniasis develop symptoms, so regular testing is important. When left untreated, the disease may last for months or even years.

Ureaplasma

Ureaplasma is a very small bacterium that both men and women can catch and transmit to each other. It is a little known but common STI. It can be spread through vaginal, oral, or anal sex. Ureaplasma can be found in normal, healthy genital tracts in both men and women and can cause not problems unless an overgrowth of the bacterial presents and can cause uncomfortable symptoms requiring treatments.
